Scream 4 More Horror

So today is a big day for the 90's horror fans out there. Yes, oh yes, it is the long awaited arrival of Scream 4.

Now, I have to admit. I was at first skeptical of the idea. How many 4th editions of a film series are good? I will not accept Harry Potter as an answer... Still thinking? Yeah, besides Land Before Time IV which ranks just behind Land Before Time XXXVI in terms of my favorite, I don't know if there has ever been a great 4th film.
But, the more I think about it the more I realize this might just be the right time for it. The original Scream, released in 1996, is one of my favorite horror movies of all-time. The reason why is it is extremely aware of itself. The horror genre itself is a tad bit ridiculous. Most of the times the plot of a horror movie is far-fetched, implausible, and unrelatable. You get dumb people doing dumb things getting killed by a dumb killer. Scream came along and delivered a horror movie that mocked horror movies. It was genius. The clever dialogue, the fun action and actually decent characters made this film great.

The sequels, Scream 2 and Scream 3 didn't quite live up to the original. The originality fizzled a bit and it started to become what it preaches so hardly against in the original, formulaic.

So now 11 years have passed and the horror genre has definitely changed a bit I am super excited to see what Wes Craven brings us with Scream 4. My expectations aren't super high, but I sure do hope it is more Scream, then Scream 2 or 3. Hopefully Dewey and Sydney Prescott can rival Littlefoot and Ducky.

Also in Theaters:

Rio

Early Expectations- I feel like this movie just came out. A 3-D animated film about a bunch of animals, some of the singing and dancing, and I feel like one of them is going to need to escape something dangerous. No it's not Rango, or Hop, or Madagascar, or Ice Age, or G-Force, or Yogi Bear... Yeah you get the point... I have seen this before.

Enjoy your weekend and I will be blogging you all on Monday.
